Wednesday: Get School Ready

If an emergency happened while your child is at school, what would you do?

It's important to know your child's School/ECE emergency plans and have a household plan in place.

1. Know your child's school plan

As a parent or guardian you should be aware of your school's emergency plans so you know where to meet your child in an emergency.

If your child's education provider is in a tsunami zone, know where the tsunami evacuation point is and go there (not the school) if there is a tsunami.

2. Organise who can pick your child up from school after an emergency

In an emergency, damaged roads and infrastructure may mean you are unable to get to your child's school.

Try to provide the school at least three names of friends or family members within walking distance of the school who could collect your children if you were unable to.

Let your children know about who would pick them up if you couldn't get there.
