WREMO recently won first place in the Readiness and Resilience category at the 2023 EMPA Awards for Excellence in Emergency Communication.
The awards were presented as part of the annual EMPA (Emergency Media and Public Affairs) conference held at Te Papa in Wellington.
The Emergency Toilet (or #GetPoopared) campaign, was the final education piece of a project to develop a comprehensive post-earthquake sanitation plan.
The campaign wouldn't have been possible without the support of our partners, especially from Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley, Wellington Water, and Massey University. Their expertise played a pivotal role in the success of the campaign, and we're grateful for their collaboration from start to finish.
In saying that, this award really goes to our Wellington region communities. Your active engagement and participation, feedback, and visits to our giant inflatable friend Poonelope, showed your commitment to emergency preparedness. Together, we've taken another step towards building a more resilient Wellington Region. Ka mau te wehi whānau!
