Recently our emergency response centre staff from around te Upoko o te Ika (Wellington region), participated in Exercise Māui – an exercise based on a large wildfire in the Wellington region.
For this scenario, staff were practising our Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) support role to Fire and Emergency NZ, who are the lead agency for fires. The council teams helped coordinate support for the safety and wellbeing of the communities affected.
Exercises like these are held on a regular basis to enable staff to come together, build relationships and test our systems and processes to support our communities.
